The material

Zellige comes from Morocco: small tiles of glazed clay, cut by hand, whose thick glaze catches the light unevenly. Laid tight, it gives a wall that changes with the time of day and the viewing angle.

Our selection is contemporary zellige: glazed tiles made in Spain that keep the small formats (5 × 15 cm, 6.2 × 12.5 cm, hexagon) and the nuanced surface of traditional zellige, with the regularity and durability today's bathrooms and kitchens call for.

Samples are best seen in the showroom, flat and in raking light: it is the only way to judge a glaze of this kind.

Frequently asked questions

Are your zellige tiles hand-cut in Morocco?

+

No. We present contemporary glazed zellige made in Spain (WOW Design, Cevica). It keeps the look of traditional zellige with a regular format that makes installation easier.

Can zellige be used in a shower?

+

Yes, the glazed tiles in our selection are suitable for shower walls. The choice of grout and how it is applied matter as much as the tile: we discuss it at the appointment, plans in hand.

Why does the shade vary from tile to tile?

+

That is the nature of a nuanced glaze: each piece reacts differently in the kiln. This variation is what makes zellige interesting, which is why it is worth seeing several tiles side by side before choosing.
