The material

Terrazzo is a recomposed stone: chips of marble and stone set in a binder, then ground and polished until their pattern appears. The Venetian battuto tradition made it an architectural floor, laid in palazzi as well as in modernist lobbies.

We work with two houses. RMC, in Portugal, composes its slabs with the country's marbles (Estremoz, Lioz, Moleanos) and a few foreign stones such as Marquina. Grandinetti, in Italy, carries on Venetian terrazzo with hand-picked inclusions and meticulous polishing.

For those who want the terrazzo look in a tile thickness, we also present a porcelain stoneware that reproduces its pattern.

Frequently asked questions

Is terrazzo suitable for a bathroom?

+

Yes, on floors and walls. Like any polished stone, it needs a suitable treatment and gentle care, which we explain at the appointment depending on how the room is used.

What is the difference between terrazzo slabs and terrazzo-effect porcelain?

+

A terrazzo slab contains real stone and is polished through its mass. Terrazzo-effect porcelain reproduces the pattern on the surface: lighter and easier to care for, but without the depth of stone.

Can terrazzo be made to measure?

+

RMC and Grandinetti offer standard and made-to-measure slabs. Lead times and options depend on the reference: we check them with you in the showroom.
