Contemporary interior design, graphic materials
Contemporary interior design is built on a simple principle, fewer materials, better drawn, larger. A floor without a visible joint, a monolithic splashback, pared-down taps with crisp lines, volumes that breathe. At Atelier Matière, we guide architects and private clients who want this register, controlled, luminous, graphic, without tipping into coldness.
Coherence comes from the dialogue between a few strong materials, large-format porcelain stoneware for continuity, composite or solid stone for the signature piece, metal for punctuation. Large slabs, crisp lines and matt finishes set the tone. Warm materials (wood, textile) step in through targeted touches to prevent excessive minerality.
Large-format porcelain stoneware
Slabs of 120x240, 160x320 and 300x150 cm turn a floor or a wall into a continuous surface, almost without joints and with an immediate graphic reading. Lea Ceramiche, Cotto d'Este, Florim and Inalco offer these dimensions in every finish, white marble effect for light, concrete effect for a more discreet grid, stone effect for mineral warmth. In a kitchen, a bathroom or a hall, the large format lays down a clear base on which the rest of the project is composed.
Kyrya Pivstone and Pivsolid composite stone
For washbasin counters, kitchen worktops and bespoke furniture, Kyrya's Pivstone (11 marble and ceramic effects) and Pivsolid (9 composite-stone effects) finishes deliver a resistant, continuous material, often paired with an integrated basin for a monolithic drawing. The Mykonos or Thaïs top, in Pivstone, concentrates the contemporary logic, a single material, no break, a sharp or ogee edge depending on the gesture sought.
Pared-down taps and black metal
Contemporary ranges TREEMME UP, Zucchetti ISY22 and Helm draw the tap as an object, taut lines, cylindrical or square spouts, chrome, brushed stainless steel or black PVD finishes. Black metal also appears in Crittall-style glazing, slim joinery and furniture detailing. It punctuates without weighing down, provided it stays discreet, two or three pieces at most per room.
