Guide, use case

Bespoke washbasin countertop, stone, composite stone or ceramic

The washbasin countertop is the bathroom's central piece, the one that concentrates both the drawing and the daily use. Its design depends on the choice of basin (countertop, inset, integrated) and on the material of the counter, which governs the fineness of the edge, water resistance and the dialogue with the rest of the room.

At Atelier Matière, we mainly work with Kyrya for bespoke modular counters, and with our stone partners (Petra Stones, Marmi) for solid-stone counters. Each solution has its own logic.

Solid stone

A counter in Calacatta, travertine, Pietra Grey or Nero Marquina (Petra Stones, Marmi) delivers a unique piece, veining running through the mass, a sharp or ogee edge, and the possibility of a basin carved out of the stone itself. The usual thickness is 2 or 3 cm, with a raw or doubled underside. The stone must be treated with a water-repellent before installation and maintained by the user (wiped dry after use, cleaned with mild soap).

Kyrya Pivstone and Pivsolid composite stone

Kyrya's Pivstone finishes (11 marble and ceramic effects) and Pivsolid finishes (9 composite-stone effects) make it possible to design a bespoke counter with a material feel, resistance to products and water, and the option of continuity with an integrated basin. The Mykonos and Thaïs tops directly integrate their Pivstone basin for a monolithic piece.

The basin, countertop, inset or integrated

A countertop basin is a designed object placed on the counter, a round, oval or rectangular washbasin in ceramic (NIC Design, Clou, Cielo), in stone or in composite stone. An inset basin sits semi-flush within the counter. An integrated basin is carved from the same material as the counter, for a single piece with neither joint nor break.

Integrating taps and mirror

The choice of basin dictates where the tap sits, a counter-mounted mixer, a wall-mounted mixer or a tall column mixer. We validate the dimensions with you (spout height, clearance, run-off) before ordering. The same logic applies to the mirror layout, wall-mounted sconces, Orac Decor LED strip, flush-mounted into the wall.
