Guide, use case

Tiles for the bathroom, floors, walls and shower

The bathroom concentrates every finish constraint, permanent humidity, temperature swings, splashes, run-off. The design has to hold up over time while keeping the freshness of a clean, bright and welcoming space. At Atelier Matière, we orchestrate floor, wall and shower as a single room, playing a dominant material against one or two counterpoints.

Porcelain stoneware remains the most versatile choice, provided the finish is well calibrated. Natural stone is possible, it simply requires careful installation and the right treatment. We lay the samples on the table to compare finishes, veining and formats in the real lighting of the project.

The floor, safety first

For the bathroom floor, we favour a matt or lightly textured finish, slip rating R10 as a minimum. Large-format stone-effect or concrete-effect porcelain stoneware (90x90, 120x120) delivers a calm space. White marble-effect stoneware in Calacatta or Thassos brightens a windowless room. Natural stone (travertine, limestone, Pietra Grey) brings mineral warmth, with a water-repellent treatment applied before installation.

Walls, from large format to relief

Two schools coexist. The seamless large format, half-height or floor-to-ceiling, for a minimal and luminous bathroom. Or decorative ceramic (WOW, Cevica, Quintessenza, Fornace Brioni) on a single wall or inside the shower, for a coloured or textured gesture. The two approaches sit together very well, zoned by use.

The walk-in shower

The level-access shower is composed in continuity with the floor of the room, with a slight integrated slope towards a linear channel drain or a central waste. The same tile covers the floor and the walls to maximise spatial reading, or you contrast with a natural-stone shower tray (Kyrya Pivstone, solid stone from Petra Stones or Marmi). Waterproofing is handled upstream, SPEC or SEL depending on the room's classification.

Wet-room compatibility

Not every ceramic is suited to every wet zone. With you, we validate the surface classifications (UPEC for the floor, class E for stoneware water absorption), the nature of the substrate and the waterproofing details at the floor-to-wall junction. A well-chosen finish lasts thirty years.
